'New year new me'. 'This will be my year'. Or what about new year new ways to be more eco conscious? I know it doesn't sound as catchy and a copywriter should work on that phrase for me, but it sure does benefit your mental health and the planet. And that sounds way better if you ask me.
Every year most of us set some new year resolutions, so we can grow as a person and enjoy life even more. Personally, I enjoy making eco conscious decisions and bringing well thought out purchases into my home. If you love this as well or are aspiring to, the following list will be a great way to start the new year!
Always carry a tote-bag with you instead of getting a bag at the store;
If possible take your bike to work. This cold season will wake you right up;
Grow your own herb garden;
Instead of having a big lawn full of grass, fill it with lots of plants and trees;
Fill up your watering can in the shower while the water is getting warm;
Plan your meals for a minimum waste ;
Switch from plastic containers to glass and bamboo ones;
Eat less meat;
Buy fair-trade coffee and chocolate;
Start composting;
Shop at zero-waste stores with refillable containers and online eco shops such as Ecossentials
Carry reusables with you such as a metal coffee cup;
Switch one disposable item for a reusable alternative at a time e.g. shampoo and conditioner bars;
Use reusable bathroom products such as a reusable cotton swab, cotton pads, razor etc.;
Avoid products containing palm oil;
DIY your personal care products or cleaning products such as a homemade all purpose cleaner ;
Shop second hand and/or sell items of your own instead of throwing it away;
Plan your purchases instead of impulse buying;
Minimize the use of electrical appliences. Let your clothes dry natural and try it for your hair as well sometimes;
Get educated by watching eco conscious documentaries. Here you'll find a post of my favorites;
Write to brands who aren't making eco-conscious decisions, make suggestions;
Support environmental causes by donating.
