MUST WATCH ECO-CONSCIOUS DOCUMENTARIES

An easy and fun way to get into eco-consciousness is through watching documentaries that are eye opening. In this post I'll share some of my favourite documentaries, that not only changed the way I think, but how I live as well. It changed the decisions I make in my everyday life and the products I buy.  I can only hope that these inspire some of you guys as well. Enjoy!

I am currently watching the documentary Down to earth with actor Zac Efron and superfoods expert & nutritionist Darin Olien. Together they travel around the world to find some new ecologically conscious perspectives. They will make you rethink the way food and power are resourced, while making you laugh. Did you know that there are fountains with free (sparkling) drinking water all over Paris? Or have you heard about a 'community fart bag' full of methane that can be used as an alternative heath or energy-source? Just watch and enjoy, you'll see what I am talking about. And to everyone who is commenting on Zac's appearance, give the guy a break, he looks amazing!

This next series shows our beautiful nature, iconic species and wildlife that still remains. From the icecaps to the sea, forests, jungles coasts and grasslands guided by the voice of David Attenborough or in other words: the most beautifully calming voice in the world! However, this series also shows how we human beings are changing our planet like never before. We are stripping wildlife from their food supplies and home, changing their climate leading to extinction of certain species. Climate change is real, but together we can protect our lovely planet.

On the other hand, in our own lives we are guided by consumerism and have too many stuff we don't need. We want good quality products for the lowest price possible, but what is the true price of these products we buy? For example, this series talks about the content and health risks of counterfeit products in the beauty industry and the recycling sham. This last one really is an eye opening episode that shows how many plastic waste we produce, how the recycling system can't keep up and how this is not and endless cycle. We really need to reduce our use of plastics if we want to make a change.

Lastly, this series will make you question the foods you eat and drink on a daily basis. Where does the product come from, which parties are involved, are they getting paid fairly, who is suffering from our consumerism? After watching this series, you won't be able to eat an avocado without thinking of the avocado war, you wont be able to eat chocolate without thinking about the farmer who is the last person in the production chain to get paid only a few cents for his hard labor and you won't be able to drink bottled water without thinking about the locals in Nigeria who are stripped from their own water supplies. Because these industries are truly rotten the way they are functioning now and need to change.

If you know some other ecologically conscious documentaries, series, websites, books or Youtube channels that inspire you, make sure to comment them down below. I would love to read all about it!
