"What do you expect from your future as an interior architect or what did you expect when you chose this education?"

This is a question one of my teachers asked and it made me think about what my answer would be. I already know why I started this education, why I love it so much, but what I expect from the future is a more difficult question.

I started my education, interior architecture, because I have a passion for designing. Designing new spaces as well as seeing potential in outdated ones. There are many stores, houses, restaurants... that aren't really inviting and it is my job as an interior architect to transform these spaces. Let's forget the grey/white, modern, cold interiors!

By designing these beautiful spaces we create enjoyable experiences, we make people feel welcome and inspire them. We can simply add joy to their lives and that's why I love it so much.

"It is far better to be motivated by the pursuit of excellence than the pursuit of success ."

Then, when I thought about my future I was more focused on the word 'success'. Dreaming about being a successful interior architect and prove to the people that didn't believe in me that I could be something someday. This is still partly true, but I realized that I have nothing to prove. I chose to do something I am passionate about and wanted to be good at, so I could make a difference in this world. The only thing I needed was for me to believe in myself and keep learning.  So I could be the interior architect that I have always wanted to be, this by pursuing excellence. Not by pursuing something so superficial as success, because success can't be measured. Excellence on the other hand is al the knowledge, experience, diligence, amazing designs, proud and passion you have and use to create a better world for others.

How I am going to achieve all of this is yet another question, and the answer to it seems to change over time. Just like what I expect from the future. This is because as a student you keep learning new things that change your perspective, you are still trying to find your voice. So if I can give you one piece of advice, keep listening to that inner voice, keep following your passions and your vision. You won't have all the answers right away and that's alright you will figure it all out along the way.
