HOW TO STYLE YOUR SHELVES

Do your walls seem a little blank, is your bookshelf in desperate need of some decorative items or does it just seem to cluttered? Then this is the blog post for you. In this post I'll show you how some aesthetically pleasing shelves can add a personal touch to your interior and make the space more complete. Be inspired!

Let's take a look at the shelves above my desk for some tips on how to make your shelves look aesthetically pleasing instead of cluttered. As you can see in the picture there are some similar items or colours on both shelves, to make it look coherent. Since I am a real pink lover, my accent colour is' different tones of pink' diagonally positioned form each other.

On each shelf is also a stack of books. When styling shelves these can be an anchor point to start with, as these are perfect to put other decor items on top of, such as a candle, a tray, small plant or those random decorative items that you love, but don't know where to put. I can't be the only one, right?

Furthermore, you can layer items to create some depth, photo frames are perfect for this. Layer different sizes on top of each other and add other decor in front of it. By creating these pairs, you leave some space in between them, making the composition lighter and less cluttered. The box on the bottom shelf also hides some dark power outlets. The perfect solution for hiding things you don't want on display!

To tie everything together, I suggest placing your shelves diagonally under each other. This leaves room for a higher object on the bottom shelf, like  a bouquet of flowers, connecting the two levels. The last picture also shows the lines I imagine when making the composition. These are shaped by connecting the different heights of the decor items, creating a perfect harmony.
